Fall Art Comes to Life at SS

Third-grade students at Seneca Street created these adorable squirrels inspired by The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming, illustrated by Nicola Slater.
After watching an animated read-aloud, students followed a guided drawing to create their trees and squirrels, then learned how to add shading to bring their artwork to life.
Students put their creativity to the test by using just three paint colors to mix and create the many shades and variations seen in their squirrels! To finish their masterpieces, they outlined their drawings, added details with oil pastels, and cut out and glued on painted fall leaves.
This multi-day art project gave students the opportunity to explore color mixing, shading, and artistic techniques while celebrating the beauty of the fall season. Great work, artists!
