Where Are They Now: Jennelle Avery (Clarke)

Meet Jennelle Avery (Clarke), OCSD Alumna, Class of 2009.
Jennelle has many fond memories of her time at OCSD, but when she reflects on her years here, she especially remembers the people who helped shape who she is today—teachers who encouraged her and friends who made every day a little more fun.
After graduating from high school, Jennelle entered the workforce, initially feeling that her classroom days were behind her. Without a clearly defined career path at the time, she gained experience in retail and customer service while navigating life one step at a time.
Over time, Jennelle discovered a passion for working with children, which led her to begin her journey in education through a Head Start program. She later continued her career with Madison-Oneida BOCES Special Programs before transitioning to the Central Square School District as a substitute teaching assistant.
In a meaningful full-circle moment, Jennelle now finds herself working under her former high school assistant principal, Mr. Colabufo—a reminder of how life often reconnects us in unexpected and meaningful ways.
To future graduates, Jennelle offers this advice: "Don’t be afraid if you don’t have everything figured out right after graduation. Give yourself permission to grow and change along the way. The plans you have today may look completely different a few years from now—and that’s okay. Stay open to new experiences, work hard, and trust that some of the best opportunities come from unexpected paths. Your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be exactly where you’re meant to be."
We are proud to highlight Jennelle’s journey and the path she has taken from OCSD student to dedicated education professional.
