Learning, exploring, and staying active in the great outdoors at OHS

Students in Coach Wise's classes have been making the most of the spring weather through two exciting physical education units that combine fitness, teamwork, and real-world learning.
Hiking Unit
Students hit the trails while learning the Leave No Trace Principles, helping them understand how to enjoy nature responsibly and protect the environment for others. Along the way, they worked together to clean up the local rail trail and explore one of the many recreational resources available in our community. Some classes also completed a fun Nature ABC Scavenger Hunt, challenging them to find objects in nature that matched each letter of the alphabet while sharpening their observation skills and appreciation for the outdoors.
Disc Golf Unit
Students were introduced to the fast-growing sport of disc golf, learning the rules of the game and the purpose of different types of discs, including putters, midrange discs, fairway drivers, and distance drivers. After practicing their skills and gaining confidence, classes took a trip to Allen Park to put their knowledge into action on the disc golf course.
From exploring local trails to mastering new athletic skills, these units gave students the opportunity to stay active, connect with nature, and discover recreational activities they can enjoy for years to come!
