Engineering in Action: Jericho’s Custom Snow Skimmer Project

Jericho, a student in the AE/Drone’s Course at Oneida High School, recently completed an impressive, personal, hands-on engineering project—a custom-built Snow Skimmer car. This project highlights the real-world application of STEM concepts, combining design, technology, and problem-solving skills developed throughout the semester.
Working alongside Mr. Gillander, Jericho began by designing the car’s body using computer modeling software, an essential tool in modern engineering that allows for precision planning and visualization. He then brought his design to life by carefully cutting each component with a laser engraving machine, demonstrating both technical skill and attention to detail.
Beyond the physical build, Jericho also tackled the electrical engineering side of the project. He successfully wired and programmed the electronics needed for throttle control and steering, integrating multiple systems into a fully functional vehicle.
While winter conditions may be behind us, Jericho was able to test his Snow Skimmer in the gym, where it performed exceptionally well. This project not only showcases his creativity and dedication but also reflects the value of hands-on, project-based learning in preparing students for future careers in engineering and technology. #OneidaPride
