WP Celebrates Autism Acceptance Month with Spirit and Inclusion

April is recognized as Autism Acceptance Month, a time dedicated not only to raising awareness, but to fostering true understanding, inclusion, and belonging for individuals on the autism spectrum.
At Willard Prior Elementary, that commitment was reflected throughout the week as students and staff participated in daily spirit days celebrating neurodiversity and promoting acceptance. In addition, staff proudly wore lanyards and pins representing autism awareness as a visible reminder of their support and commitment to creating an inclusive school community.
Celebrations like this are especially meaningful in an elementary setting, where young learners are developing the foundation for empathy, kindness, and respect for differences. By normalizing inclusion early, schools help shape a generation that values every student’s unique strengths and perspectives.
Together, these small but powerful actions reinforce a larger message: every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and accepted exactly as they are.
