Where Are They Now: Kate Smith (Curro)
Meet Kate Smith (Curro), a proud Oneida CSD alumna, Class of 2008!
Kate fondly remembers her time at OCSD, especially playing on athletic teams, cheering at football games, and spending time in art classes. One of her most meaningful experiences came later, when she returned to OCSD as an assistant softball coach alongside her brother, Coach Curro, during the 2019 season—helping lead the team to the NY State Finals.
After graduating, Kate continued her education at Mohawk Valley Community College and Empire State College, earning degrees in Graphic Design. She later went on to complete her Master’s degree in Strategic Communication at SUNY Oswego.
Throughout her career, Kate has gained diverse experience, including serving as an adjunct instructor in the Art Department at MVCC, working in the hospitality industry, and supporting marketing teams for both local and global organizations. For the past three years, she has been the co-founder of Media Haus, a graphic design company she launched with her college classmate, Crystal. Through Media Haus, Kate helps businesses grow through thoughtful, strategic branding and design.
To future graduates, Kate leaves this valuable advice: "Don’t stress about having a perfect plan at 18. Take classes in areas you’re curious about, try new activities, and work in different fields while you can. Being interdisciplinary is a strength, and some of the best opportunities come from combining your interests."
