Keeping Oneida Connected: A Major IT Milestone Completed Over Break

The Oneida City School District IT team worked diligently over the winter break to complete a major behind-the-scenes milestone: returning the district’s network from its temporary location at MORIC back to its permanent home at Oneida High School.
Back in June, significant flooding at the high school impacted critical infrastructure, including the district’s network environment. A network is the backbone that connects all district operations - allowing students and staff to work, teach, and learn seamlessly each day. When flooding occurred, the IT team was faced with the complex task of carefully dismantling and rerouting the network. This process is extremely meticulous and time-consuming, as each component must be properly powered down, labeled, disconnected, transported, and reassembled in the correct order to avoid data loss or system failure. The equipment was relocated to MORIC and Middle School, where it could safely operate until power and conditions at the high school were fully restored.
Although power at the high school had been restored prior to winter break, returning the network was not a simple or immediate task. To minimize disruption to instruction and daily operations, winter break was the most logical and least disruptive time to complete this work.
With coordination and support from Spectrum, Northland Communications, and MORIC, the Oneida IT team successfully reinstalled and restored the network at Oneida High School, ensuring systems were brought back online safely, securely, and fully operational. This was a significant undertaking that required careful planning, technical expertise, and long hours of dedicated work.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Oneida IT team, along with Spectrum, Northland, and MORIC, for their professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to keeping our district connected. Their efforts often happen out of sight, but they are essential to the smooth functioning of our schools every single day.
