Exploring Absorption in Science Class at Durhamville

Mrs. Bradley and Ms. Hart’s class at Durhamville Elementary recently participated in an engaging science lesson focused on exploring how different materials absorb water. Students measured the amount of water a piece of yarn absorbed after a five-minute timer, using various lengths of yarn to compare absorption levels.
Through this investigation, students practiced key scientific skills—such as measuring, observing, recording data, and comparing results—while deepening their understanding of how material properties can impact absorption. Hands-on lessons like this spark curiosity and help students build a strong foundation in scientific inquiry.
