Oneida Technology Students Excel in Engineering Design Challenge

Oneida High School Technology students in Mr. Wright and Mr. Gillander’s classes showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills during the Engineering Design Challenge – Disaster Response. The event brought together students from five local school districts, forming a total of 23 teams.
Oneida students performed exceptionally well, earning 1st, 4th, and 5th place overall. Teams were challenged to design and build a bridge capable of supporting a specific weight, as well as construct a protective case to keep an egg intact when dropped from a height of six feet. Projects were evaluated on weight, material use, stability, functionality, and accuracy.
After lunch, students faced a surprise third challenge—repackaging their bridge components and designing a device to launch their supplies across a “river” blocked by disaster debris. This engaging experience encouraged innovation, teamwork, and applied engineering principles, highlighting the incredible talent of our Oneida students.
