Special Capital Project Vote – November 12, 2025

The Oneida City School District will hold a Special Capital Project Vote on Tuesday, November 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Voters will be asked to consider Proposition 1, a bond resolution to fund important improvements across all district facilities, including LED lighting upgrades, HVAC system updates, and energy efficiency projects, at a total estimated cost of $3,000,000.

Quick Facts: No Cost to Taxpayers


$3 Million Project – Fully funded with NYS Building Aid and guaranteed energy savings.
No Tax Impact – The project will not increase school taxes.
Smart Investment – $2.61M in Building Aid + $390,000 in energy savings and incentives = project pays for itself. The district will keep saving money even after the project is paid off.
Energy Efficient Upgrades – LED lighting, upgraded heating/cooling, weatherization, and natural gas conversion.
Modern, Reliable Systems – Replacing outdated equipment for safer, more efficient schools.

Where Are They Now: Ben O'Connell

Meet Ben O'Connell, a proud alumnus of Oneida City School District, graduating with the class of 2019. 

One of Ben's fondest memories from his time at Oneida occurred immediately after the curtain fell on one of the musical performances he participated in. "There was a moment of silence where everyone in the cast looked at each other and then broke out in laughter and cheering."

Following graduation, Ben continued his academic journey at Syracuse University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in the Spring of 2023. He returned to Syracuse in the Fall of 2023 to pursue a dual Master’s degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting.

Currently, Ben is in his inaugural year of teaching at Mount Markham Central School District, where he serves as a music and choir teacher for grades 5-8.

To future graduates, Ben offers this piece of advice: "Though it is cliché, you will face failure and rejection in life. But, never let it be the reason for giving up on what you’re passionate about."
