OHS Rome/Madrid Trip 2025

The Oneida High School Rome/Madrid trip was an exceptional experience for all participants. The journey commenced smoothly as the group of students arrived in Rome, eager to explore the rich history and culture of the city.
Under the guidance of their tour leader, Massimo, the students ventured to the city center where they admired the exterior of St. Peter's Basilica. The day was filled with extensive walking and sightseeing, with a notable highlight being their visit to the iconic Pantheon. Massimo adeptly arranged for the group to enter without the need for tickets or waiting in line, enhancing the experience. They also explored the ruins of the Senate and the site where Julius Caesar was assassinated, in addition to enjoying the beauty of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
A day trip to the ancient archaeological site of Ostia Antica was another notable aspect of their adventure. Here, the students were led on an informative guided tour by an archaeologist, where they learned about the remains of this significant Roman port city. The group also participated in a cooking class, where they crafted their own pasta, specifically cavatelli and ravioli, and enjoyed the delicious results of their efforts.
The students had the opportunity to visit the Boca della Verità (the Mouth of Truth), where each participant took a turn placing their hand inside to test their honesty. They explored various ancient monuments throughout Rome, with the Colosseum and Roman Forum being among the most significant sites.
Madrid also provided an enriching experience. The group adventured into the magnificent ancient city of Toledo, where they viewed the stunning Gothic cathedral, the second largest in Spain. They visited a historic sword-making shop and enjoyed an exhilarating zipline experience across Toledo's gorge.
A day trip to Segovia and La Granja showcased more of Spain’s beauty, with highlights including the Alcázar castle, the charming town of Segovia, and the impressive 2,000-year-old Roman Aqueduct. They also explored the expansive and beautifully manicured Royal Gardens of La Granja.
Capping off their trip, the group enjoyed a private flamenco show, featuring the incredible talents of dancers, singers, and guitarists, providing a memorable conclusion to their journey.
