OHS & OSMS Building Closure Update 11/17/20
Posted on 11/17/2020

November 17, 2020

District staff spent Monday deep cleaning Otto Shortell Middle School and Oneida High School and prepared documentation for the Department of Health to begin contact tracing.   Custodial/ maintenance staff and administrative/office staff went above and beyond for the district.

Today, the District was contacted by the Madison County Department of Health who is assisting the Oneida County Department of Health to begin their contact tracing regarding the positive case from Sunday 11/15/2020.  In the event that you are contacted by a health department representative, we encourage you to offer your complete cooperation.

Due to the number of students and staff members that may be quarantined and in an abundance of caution, Oneida High School and Otto Shortell Middle School, including BOCES CTE students, will be learning remotely through Tuesday, November 24, 2020. All OCSD schools will be closed November 25-27 due to Thanksgiving vacation.  On Monday, November 30, 2020, students at OSMS and OHS will be learning in-person based on their cohort and we will resume their typical learning schedule.   Cohort A and E will learn in person on Monday, November 30 and Cohorts B and V will learn remotely on November 30. The building principals will communicate specific information regarding remote learning.  Additionally, Wednesday will remain typical with students participating in office hours, homeroom and learning asynchronously.

Please know that the district’s priority is protecting the health, welfare and safety of students and staff while complying with any government orders and guidance related to COVID-19 and school operation.

We appreciate your support and understanding on this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.

Sincerely,

Mary-Margaret Zehr

Superintendent
