Posted on 05/13/2021

The Oneida City School District Board of Education has two seat openings. One seat has a 1-year term and begins May 19, 2021, and one seat has a 5-year term that begins July 1, 2021. Each candidate has the opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss some of the important issues facing the school district.

On May 18th, district voters will elect two members to the Board of Education and vote on a school budget.

Voting will take play at Oneida High School and Durhamville Elementary School. Everyone must wear a mast at polling locations and in school buildings.

Breyt Coakley

Oneida City School District has great representation from an educational perspective.  However, as the world becomes increasingly technical, our district needs to adapt.  School policy and budgeting decisions also need increasingly technical perspectives.  I would like to join our school board to enhance this perspective.

I graduated from Rensselaer with a B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics.  I also graduated from New York University with an MBA.  I have more than 20 years of experience in management and engineering positions of increasing responsibility at Lockheed Martin (Syracuse, NY) and Raytheon (Bedford, MA).  I also have expertise in many Electronic Warfare and Radar products.  I am currently the Vice President of Helios Remote Sensing Systems, Inc. in Rome, NY.  My responsibilities at Helios include program management, business development, human resources, and strategic planning.  I am willing to donate my time to help improve our district.

Dr. Kurt Gormley

My name is Kurt Gormley and I have been a resident of Oneida for 24 years. I grew up in Carthage NY and graduated from Carthage Central High School. I obtained a BS in chemistry from St. Lawrence University.  I continued my education at the University of Buffalo Dental School and graduated with a DDS degree.  My wife Kim and I have two daughters currently enrolled in the Oneida City School District.

I decided to run for the school board because, I would like to see that all student have the tools to move forward in life.  To ensure that all schools prepare students for what the future may demand, whether that is to further their education or a career to help them learn to be successful in life. By helping schools improve this will help our students move forward in life.  Which will help make our community a better place.
