Mr. Gillander’s UAV Drone class was visited by Officer Noyes, an Environmental Conservation Officer with the NYS DEC. Officer Noyes shared what he does with drones as part of his duties with the DEC.
Students got to see photos and video footage from different missions he has flown throughout NYS: an oil spill in West Leyden, an emergency response on the Hudson River, and tracking wildlife and studying the biology.
Students also were able to check out some of his drones and
related equipment. Students tried on VR goggles used for first-person view flight, and used the FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) camera mounted to the drone to detect heat signatures.
This was a great opportunity for students to see the variety of drone applications in the DEC and discover what a career working for the NYS DEC can offer.
