Colgate Mentors 2019

Way back in 2002, long before any of our current Huskies were even born, the beginning of a wonderful partnership between Colgate University and North Broad Street Elementary began thanks to Ms. Collea and the Center for Outreach, Volunteerism, and Education (COVE). What began as a small group of children in need of academic support has grown into so much more. It has become a weekly after school program that provides students with positive role models and mentorship. Our students are excited every Friday for Colgate Day as each week they are treated to activities, crafts, cooperative games, and snacks.  Lasting friendships have been formed and grow stronger each week, and each year. Both the students and mentors have been positively impacted by their time together and we love seeing the college students return year after year!

In 2016, North Broad Street School earned the COVE award for “Best Community Partnership” because of our joint efforts to enrich the lives of our students. This commitment has also allowed another program to form, our “graduate” program.  The “graduate” program is designed for girls in 5th grade and allows them to spend time with positive role models.  It inspires them to stay committed to their education and to learn valuable new skills. The girls build connections and create lasting relationships with their role models.  These powerful connections promote academic and social success for our students at North Broad Street!

Thank you to the COVE for inviting our students to campus on April 26th for lots of laughs, fun activities, and many memories! We look forward to our continued partnership and we truly appreciate your commitment to our community!
