Are you looking for ways to engage with your children using positivity and humor, and also to set boundaries for your children to grow up to be independent, productive adults? Please join the Oneida City School District as we hear from social worker Charlie Appelstein, M.S.W. Charlie brings his message of hope and positivity to OCSD teachers and parents on Friday, March 20th, 2020 at the Oneida High School.

The Oneida City School District looks to provide education around trauma-informed instruction and a focus on positive emotions. During the day on Friday, Appelstein will work with educators in a workshop entitled “No Such Thing as a Bad Kid. Understanding and Responding to Students with Emotional & Behavioral Challenges Using a Positive, Trauma-Informed, Strength-Based Approach”.

Parents and members of the public are invited to a workshop that begins at 7pm Friday March 20 in the Oneida High School Cafeteria.  This workshop is called “Helping Your Kids to Be All That They Can Be: Using a Positive, Strength-Based Approach for Effective Parenting.”

This workshop will present a host of principles and techniques that help parents maximize the greatness that exists in every child and family. Topics covered include: What is strength-based parenting? Positive emotions and brain development; strength-based verbal interventions including reframing, positive-predicting, and inspirational metaphors; encouraging growth vs. fixed mindsets; strategies for enhancing self-esteem in children; respectful, relationship-based limit setting; creative self-management techniques; and tips for parents on how to manage their own emotions and responses. “Charlie is a very engaging speaker who speaks to the heart of every teacher and parent. He brings practical tips and strategies and the desire to shift your mindset to the positive”, said Jessica Poyer, Administrator of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Oneida City School District.

The 7pm workshop is open to the public and is FREE!
