The Oneida City School District finalized the sale of the former Oneida Castle Elementary School Building on June 15, 2018. MEID Construction purchased the property for $225,000. The Sherrill based company plans to use the property to house its offices and to build some senior housing.

M.E.I.D. Construction and Alliance Apartments are pleased to announce that renovations are

already underway to convert the classroom wing into 9 senior friendly 2-bedroom flats

along with a community living room/community kitchen for use by residents for larger gatherings,” said Todd Schaal, of MEID Construction. “

The remainder of the building is being converted to house the new headquarters for MEID Construction and its affiliate companies.

“The Board of Education and School District officials are thankful to have found the right buyer, a reputable local company, who will positively transform this high profile location within the heart of the village,” said School Board President John Elberson. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Oneida Castle village officials. They were extremely supportive and accommodating throughout the entire process as we worked together towards a common goal.”

The community overwhelmingly voted to sell the property back in December during a special vote. The district made the difficult decision to close the school in 2011 following statewide budget shortfalls and a drop in attendance. Since the closure, the property was costing the district $40,000 a year to maintain.

We would like to thank the Oneida School District taxpayers who voted yes to allow this

project to move forward along with all the words of support and encouragement from the

community. We believe this is an excellent use of this decades old Oneida area landmark

and are excited to see this conversion underway. The apartments will be completed this fall with the corporate offices following over the winter. Those interested in the apartments should contact Alliance Apartments at (315)280-0697,” said Schaal.

The building is located on Castle Street in Oneida Castle and is approximately 24,800 square feet on 1.6 acres.
